iCal 7:00 PM. Connecticut Choral Society [CT]: In Memoriam: A concert of solace for the people of Newtown. In response to the tragedy and loss suffered by the people of Newtown, the Connecticut Choral Society is giving a FREE concert open to the general public (not only those in Newtown). The New Jersey Choral Society, the Choir of Historic St. Malachy's Church, and the Keystone State Boychoir will also be participating.
\ \ The featured piece, John Rutter’s Mass of the Children, was born out of heartache and great loss. After Rutter’s college-age son was killed in a tragic accident, the composer was unable to write music for over two years. He regained his inspiration and wrote this epic masterpiece, perhaps as a way of paying tribute to his son and of clearing his soul of torment. The program will also include Durufle's Ubi Caritas, John Rutter's Gaelic Blessing and selected pieces sung by the Keystone State Boychoir. Under the direction of Music Director Steven Fisher, Keystone State Boychoir consists of more than 150 young men between the ages of eight and 18 who sing repertoire from the classical to the contemporary. No tickets are required for this free concert. The audience is encouraged to come early to get a seat. For more information, call 203-206-7186 or email ctchoral@comcast.net.
