DescriptionThe Pilgrim Festival Chorus is a volunteer, not-for-profit singing group dedicated to the performance of choral music; to give public and private concerts; to provide a musically educational opportunity to its members and the public; and to encourage and promote choral singing and the appreciation of good choral music.
The Pilgrim Festival Chorus has been singing as a group since 1999 under the direction of co-directors William Richter and Elizabeth Chapman Reilly. The group starts its regular season with an annual Christmas concert. The group performs a larger work along with several familiar carol sing a-longs. The spring season features a larger work with performances in late April or early May. Finally, the chorus performs a lighter summer concert in early summer.
Each year, the group has taken on more challenging music. Past works include such well-known classics as Carmina Burana, Brahms’ German Requiem, Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s The Messiah, and most recently, Mozarts’ Requiem , as well as lesser-known works such as Kodaly’s Missa Brevis, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Rutter’s Gloria. The chorus currently has 80 members from towns across the South Shore. Members vary in age and come from a variety of backgrounds, but all of them have a love and appreciation of choral music. Members are accepted twice per year prior to each concert season (fall and spring) by audition.
