Mr Philip Lauriat, conductor; Mr Shawn McCann, accompanist. Philip Lauriat has more than 25 years’ experience in the world of opera as conductor, producer and stage director. He was the Artistic Director of Granite State Opera from 1998 to 2009, the Music Director of the Portsmouth Symphony from 2004 to 2008, and is a frequent guest conductor with various orchestras and opera companies.   • Boston Singers' Resource: Choirs Come Back. A panel discussion with James Liu, M.D.; Lisa Graham, Music Director of the Metropolitan Chorale; Meyer Chambers, the Director of the Archdiocesan Black Catholic Choir and Director of Music at St. Katharine Drexel Parish; and Mark Mummert, Assistant Director / Accompanist of The Worcester Chorus and tenor with CONCORA, Connecticut Choral Artists. The panel will review the latest science regarding safe singing, and describe what New England choruses are doing and planning to do to resume operations - and will answer questions from those attending.   • Ensemble Altera: Jewels of the English Renaissance. Six vocalists perform one-to-a-part works by Byrd, Tallis, Taverner, and others ranging from the intricacies of the Eton Choirbook to the elegant simplicity of the early Reformation. The program includes a mixture of forms such as the pitch spiral of a double perfect canon and cantus firmus settings as well as simpler homophonic language. Textual themes vary from Advent to Nativity, Lent to Easter, and liturgical contexts range from a mass setting to a penitential psalm to a Vespers responsory.   • Jubilate Chamber Choir with El Dorado Viol Consort [MA]: Cries and Ballads of London. Secular early music, centering on “The Cries of London” by Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625), which reflects cries of street vendors selling their wares, as well as songs by Morley, Marenzio and Byrd. Tickets are $20. In-person space is limited, and strict COVID-19 protocols are in place; the event will be streamed on Facebook Live (via “Church of Saint Andrew”) and recorded by Salem Access Television for future broadcast.   • Metropolitan Chorale: Home - Virtual concert including world premiere. This virtual presentation will feature the world premiere of a suite of four new pieces by Steven Sametz, with some old and new favorites. This project is a self-portrait; a snapshot of our year together in a virtual space, and the newfound significance of “home.” Members took part by contributing their own reflections on the concept of home over the past year, which then served as text for these new works, making this concert especially personal and unique for us.
