iCal 4:00 PM. Convivium Musicum [MA]: Brahms and Early Music. Join Convivium as we rummage through the extensive musical closet of Johannes Brahms, dusting off the Renaissance and early Baroque polyphony that inspired his own most inventive and artful choral utterances. Brahms’ music library reflected the composer's almost unprecedented respect for artists of the past. One is not surprised to find Schubert, Mozart, Haydn and Bach among his collection, but there was also a healthy collection of Lotti, Lassus, Praetorius, Eccard, and other composers that were virtually unknown at the time. Brahms was also responsible for bringing many of these composers to the Viennese public, helping to usher in more generally the concept of the "canon" in Western musical life. Convivium presents a sample of the works Brahms held so dear and that he chose to share with his adopted Vienna. For more information, call 617-320-7445 or email info@convivium.org. United Parish in Brookline, 210 Harvard Street, Brookline MA
