Auditions

Auditions are open for Brattleboro Camerata, Brattleboro Concert Choir, Cantemus Chamber Chorus, Cantilena, Connecticut Choral Society, Metropolitan Chorale, Pilgrim Festival Chorus and Spectrum Singers. See the auditions page for more information.

iCal 2:00 PM. Boston Cecilia [MA]: The Boston Cecilia "History Walk". A 90-minute guided walk at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery through Boston’s music history, starting in the late 19th century, a time when Cecilia played an important role in Boston's emergence as an American center for classical music. The walk visits the gravesite of B.J. Lang, Cecilia’s first music director, along with other historic figures, including BSO founder Henry Lee Higginson, two of the “Boston Six” - Arthur Foote and George W. Chadwick — as well as Margret Ruthven Lang, the first American woman to have a piece performed by a major orchestra, and Mabel Wheeler Daniel, a conductor, composer, and educator. Bach motet Jesu, Meine Freude, will be at the center of a concert presenting the music of composers who influenced Bach and those who were powerfully influenced by him. Those composers include Palestrina, Sweelinck, J.M. Bach, J.C. Bach, Buxtehude, Brahms, both Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Nystedt, Hailstork and Robles. Michael Barrett, conductor. iCal 4:00 PM. Boston Cecilia [MA]: Prophecy. During his time here, Antonin Dvořák forecast that the US would produce a classical music tradition that was truly its own. This concert explores the complex history of how that prophecy came to be heeded by some and shunned by others. Works by Dvorak and his mentor Brahms form the backdrop, followed by music from Black and white composers, including Amy Beach, Aaron Copland, Nathaniel Dett, Charles Ives, Rosephayne Powell, Zanaida Robles, George Walker, and others.
