You may know the sublimely beautiful Requiem by the 19th century composer Gabriel Fauré, but did you know that his predecessor by 300 years, Eustache de Caurroy, wrote a Requiem for the death of King Henry IV which was then used at the funerals of French kings for the next 200 years? Motets by Palestrina and other leading composers active in Rome, and a new work by Cheryl Frances-Hoad written especially for Stile Antico and this program.
