Berkshire Choral International at Great Barrington
Cameron LaBarr, conductor.
A long-weekend workshop in The Berkshires on the choral legacy of Alice Parker—from the early Robert Shaw arrangements through her original compositions. One of the most prominent women of her generation, Alice was a trailblazing musician whose craft was rooted in authenticity and humanism.
Dr. Cameron LaBarr, Director of Choral Studies at Missouri State, studied with Alice and co-wrote the book The Melodic Voice: Conversations with Alice Parker. LaBarr has an international reputation as conductor, clinician, and choral juror across North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, and serves as board member for the International Federation for Choral Music. His knowledge and personal experience of Alice will be an invaluable resource as we celebrate an American choral music legend.
We’ll live and rehearse on the rustic campus of Bard College at Simon’s Rock in The Berkshires. Three nights dormitory lodging and all meals are included in your tuition. A limited number of semi-private campus apartments (minimum 3 people) will be available for an upgrade fee. A commuter option is available for those who prefer to find their own lodging. Meals on campus are charged to all participants to encourage shared learning and social experiences.
We don’t feature a public concert during our workshop programs, but we will sing a final showcase open to friends and family.
