Creative Musicians Retreat at The Walden School

Year:
2018
Date(s):
June 16–24, 2018
Location:
Dublin, N.H.

A week-long festival at the Dublin School in New Hampshire for choral singers, composers, improvisers, performers, electronic musicians, and music teachers who want to spend a week immersed in music. The curriculum is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professional and amateur musicians. The powerful synergy between composers, performers, and improvisers, as well as theorists, choral singers, and teachers is what makes a musical retreat at Walden so unique. Surrounded by the natural beauty of southern New Hampshire and away from day-to-day distractions, musicians from all over the world come to contribute to an artistic and intellectual community. This is where people gather to invigorate their musical training, participate in a vibrant and talented community, and engage in creative music making through composition, improvisation, musicianship, choral singing, and much more.

Faculty, staff and participants gather to sing together each day, both for joy and to practice applied musicianship. Our Chamber Chorus workshops and performs new works composed by Retreat composers. Matt Gold (percussion) and Steven Beck (piano) join the Mivos Quartet as Artists-in-Residence. They will be available for lessons and coachings, and to workshop and perform. Everyone participates in three recorded Composers Forums with Composer-in-Residence Annie Gosfield.

Participants are 40 adult musicians from around the world. Tuition, room and board: $2,125 (plus a $30 application fee). Need-based financial aid is available.
