And My Neighbor is…
Worcester, MA
Retelling the story of The Good Samaritan, this work directly addresses the modern need for better community through shared experience. In her own words, Gilson Voth writes: “In an era when we are quick to label 'new' vs 'old' and associate styles or qualities with one or the other, this is an important moment to challenge that dichotomy and reaffirm that craftsmanship in sound has no bounds of time or place. The key is to weave in ways that draw in new performers and listeners. This piece is being scored with a part for youth choir because the rising generation of choral singers have limited opportunities to participate in substantial choral/orchestral works, and this experience is vital for the future of our profession.”
