Seacoast Community Chorus Seeks New Artistic Leadership

After 33 years under the direction of Wendell S. Purrington, who is retiring from this position, the Seacoast Community Chorus of York, Maine is now seeking an inspiring Conductor/Artistic Director to provide artistic leadership and take the chorus into our next era, beginning in September 2026.

SCC is a welcoming, non-auditioned community chorus of approximately 50 singers. We are dedicated to musical excellence, vocal development, and sharing the joy of choral music with the Seacoast community. We perform two major concerts each year (January and May).

The Conductor/Artistic Director will select repertoire, lead weekly rehearsals, conduct performances, and collaborate with accompanist, soloists, and the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include developing artistic vision, teaching vocal and choral technique, engaging singers from diverse backgrounds, and working within an approved budget.

Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings, September through May, at York First Parish Church in York, Maine. Compensation is contractual and commensurate with experience.

Ideal candidates have formal training or equivalent experience in choral conducting, strong leadership and communication skills, and a collaborative, positive approach to achieving choral excellence.

Seacoast Community Chorus also seeks an experienced Accompanist/ Collaborative Pianist beginning in September 2026 to accompany all weekly rehearsals on piano. The candidate should have prior experience accompanying a 4-part chorus and having an active role in the teaching process.
