The theme of the work, originally called “Revision,” focuses on our growth as individuals after the events of the pandemic through community. It also brings an alternative view on our current endemic loneliness. The arc of the text begins from a place of self-reliance and motions to the audience as a force to bring them from their current state to that of a more fulfilled, more joyous one.

The instrumentation mirrors these themes, as the cello plays distinctly and away from the piano until the text finds its natural resolution. At this point, the cello begins to double the piano as the phrases become longer and more romantic in gesture. We hope that this work finds both the musicians and audience enjoying the company of their friends and family at each performance.
