Altera's Composition Competition Showcases Young Composers

The Providence-based chamber choir Ensemble Altera is sponsoring a composition competition to showcase the work of up-and-coming choral composers. The winning work will be recorded and, if possible, performed for a live audience as part of Altera’s COVID memorial project, “We Remember,” taking place in mid-July. The winnder will also receive a cash prize of $500.

Entries should be a new work for unaccompanied mixed choir of up to eight voice parts, with text primarily derived from the poem
“For the Beauty of the Earth” by Folliott S. Pierpont. The musical ideas should reflect the larger project goal, which is a program of remembrance, uplift and healing in the wake of the COVID year. The total duration should be between three and six minutes.

There is an application fee of $20. Submission deadline is June 30, 2021. For more information see the Altera website or write to ensemblealtera@gmail.com.
