Description
The Colby-Kennebec Choral Society is a large, mixed choral ensemble (about 80 singers, soprano/alto/tenor/bass) that performs major works for chorus and orchestra from the 18th to the 20th centuries. The group performs once a year in early May, and rehearses on the Colby campus once a week during the College’s spring semester (Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00). While extensive auditions are not required for admission to the Society, we do ask that prospective members have previous choral singing experience.
Past repertoire has included Requiems by Mozart, Brahms, and Fauré; other sacred works (based on the Te Deum and Stabat Mater texts) by Rossini, Dvorak and Verdi; oratorios by Handel and masses by Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert; and works by Bach, Gershwin, Poulenc, Stravinsky, and Bernstein, among others. In performances of these works, the Choral Society is joined by the Colby College Chorale and accompanied by the Colby Symphony Orchestra.
