SUMMARY

The Unitarian Society of Hartford (USH) seeks a Director of Music for a salaried position at an average of 18 hours per week.  The Director of Music will lead the USH choir, provide keyboard (piano and/or organ) accompaniment during Sunday worship services; and provide oversight to our Music Program (coordinating guest musicians, managing the budget, and leading the visioning and expansion of our Music Program).

Chorale Conductor | Colby College – Waterville, Maine

The Department of Music at Colby College seeks a dynamic conductor to direct two groups with a history of musical excellence: a large, mixed chorale ensemble (involving both students and community members) and a chamber choir (made up of students). Each group prepares at least one concert per semester, and the chorale performs major works with the Colby orchestra at the end of each academic year. The position may also include teaching studio lessons for both majors and non-majors, with strong preference given to vocal instruction.

The successful candidate will have a record of success as a conductor, knowledge of a range of repertoire, ability to recruit effectively, success in teaching instruction (if applicable), and the ability to work successfully with students in the context of a selective liberal arts college.

Church Choir Director, Lexington Massachusetts

Pilgrim Congregational Church, Choir Director

Pilgrim Congregational Church in Lexington Massachusetts seeks a Choir Director to fulfill the following job responsibilities:

  • Chooses music for and rehearses the small Pilgrim choir one evening per week
  • For Sunday services:
    • Directs choir anthems
    • Hires and supervises soloists
    • Leads congregational singing
    • Sings the offertory
  • Participates in 5 other services/events over the course of the year (Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday services, Lexington Interfaith Thanksgiving service, Lexington Choral Festival, community Christmas carol singing)

Candidate Profile / Experience and Qualifications

Conducting Intern Position Available

The Conducting Internship was established in September, 2000 to train conductors in the area of Jewish choral music.

The intern

  • Is engaged in a study of Jewish choral repertoire and conducting techniques with the Chorale’s Artistic Director
  • Sings as a regular member of the Chorale, attending all rehearsals and concerts
  • Attends monthly staff meetings
  • May be given opportunities to conduct the Chorale in rehearsals (both tutti and break-out rehearsals) and in concert
  • May sit in on auditions for new members

The intern may also serve as assistant conductor, vocal coach, and/or section leader. The term is generally for one season (September through June). This is an unpaid position.
