Pilgrim Congregational Church, Choir Director

Pilgrim Congregational Church in Lexington Massachusetts seeks a Choir Director to fulfill the following job responsibilities:

• Chooses music for and rehearses the small Pilgrim choir one evening per week
• For Sunday services:
  • Directs choir anthems
  • Hires and supervises soloists
  • Leads congregational singing
  • Sings the offertory
• Participates in 5 other services/events over the course of the year (Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday services, Lexington Interfaith Thanksgiving service, Lexington Choral Festival, community Christmas carol singing)

Candidate Profile / Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will combine a thorough knowledge of choral and vocal performance with experience conducting and leading singers in diverse ecclesiastical musical styles.

The successful candidate will:

• Choose music that is attainable for a small choir with diverse experience and ability
• Have interest in and experience with music in religious settings
• Be a good teacher, accessible to all experience levels and talents
• Work effectively with the music director and pastor in administering the music program
• Be competent as a pianist (for rehearsals) and as a vocal soloist
• Be kind, encouraging and joyful
• Have connections in the wider community and choral world

Compensation: This is a part-time, salaried, 10-month per year (September-June) position.  The successful candidate with work approximately 8 hours/week and will be compensated at $9,000 - $12,000/year depending on experience  Time Off: Two Sundays per year in addition to the Sunday between Christmas and New Year’s Day and the last Sunday of June. There are no other benefits associated with this position. 

Our Schedule: The Pilgrim choir rehearses Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 8:30 pm.  Sunday morning worship is from 10:30-11:30, with worship staff meeting from 9:15-9:45 and choir rehearsal from 9:45-10:15.
