Chorus description:
Dirigo Ensemble is an organization of local musicians presenting musical excellence in performance, education, and proliferation of community art. We specialize in unaccompanied (a cappella) vocal music from all eras, and share a passion for music education. By bringing high quality music to communities that may not otherwise have access to it, we are able to share the unique experience of musical art and inspiration. From public performances to private functions and scholastic events, Dirigo Ensemble brings real life to any musical performance. We perform a diverse repertory of music from Renaissance to commissioned works in multiple languages and historical practices. We take considerable care to match any event with an appropriately sized ensemble. Depending on the needs, Dirigo can be anything from an intimate quartet in a private function to a double choir in a baroque concert with a full orchestra. Dirigo is Latin for "I Lead," and the motto for the State Of Maine. As a locally based ensemble, we want to retain our Maine roots. We are a group of individual artists, each leading with their own voice. The artistic director helps guiding the communal desire of the group, but each member shares their unique talents, experience, and knowledge. Together we bring a remarkable experience to all audiences with programming that is evocative, progressive, informed, and exciting. By sharing our music we hope to support new musicians, and lead others in new ways of collaboration.
