Chorus description:
We present both German folk songs and art songs by famous German composers. We rehearse every Tuesday evening, 7:30 to 9:00 PM, September through June at the Boylston Schul-Verein. Each year we present three dinner-dance concerts at the Boylston Schul -Verein. New singers are welcome at any time: just come to a rehearsal at the Schul-Verein. There are no auditions, and no special knowledge of the German language is required. Former choir director, the late Claus Hasbrouck, specialized in his own arrangements of many traditional German art and folk songs, providing the choir with a rich repertoire which is still used today. Often the choir ends the Christmas season singing German and Austrian carols, including “Stille Nacht.” Fasching brings a light-hearted celebration to the choir with a repertoire of Carnival songs sung in costume. The Mayfest event signals the beginning of summer, when the choir festivals go on hiatus, singing again at the BSV Sommerfest and Oktoberfest before the October Cabaret program. Past performances have included light opera, themed skits , “Zigeunerabend” (A Gypsy Evening), plays, and Cabaret. Come join us for the creative fun, German culture, and Gemütlichkeit!
