Chorus description:
The chorus strives to provide a high quality music experience for children of Berkshire County ages 6 to 13. The goal is to foster in each child a love of music by training them in the demanding art of choral singing. In order to perform the best music from several centuries in a variety of styles, each child must cultivate self-control, patience, and perseverance in learning their part and how to sing and work with others. We believe that a foundation in music is a discipline that over a lifetime will develop the intellect, shape the character and sustain the spirit. The chorus performs with the Berkshire Lyric Chorus in several high profile concerts a year, often to enthusiastic capacity audiences. Over the years they have been part of masterworks such as the Bach Mass in b Minor, Faure's Requiem, and this past spring in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. The Chorus also presents its own concerts every year in a wide variety of music ranging from Christmas carols, children's songs, American folk songs, music from the Broadway stage and new concert music by leading contemporary composers. In 2004, we added the Berkshire Singers, our teen chorus, ages 14-19. The Berkshire Singers is led by Berkshire Lyric's dynamic accompanist Joe Rose.
