Chorus description:
Ecclesia Consort is a choral organization dedicated to preserving sacred choral music through performance in some of the finest churches in southern New England. Throughout the years Ecclesia has sung music spanning the centuries including Gregorian chant, renaissance polyphony, classical and baroque works, through and including music of our time. They sing in the glorious edifices of area churches in which the music is most resonant. Blessed Sacrament Church of Providence, Rhode Island is one such church and not only hosts a fine Aeolian Skinner pipe organ but some of the finest acoustics of any church in New England. Ecclesia is proud of its heritage there and thanks the community of Mount Pleasant and pastors and staff present and past. Ecclesia has championed composers of new music for the church in years past, notably Charles Shadle of MIT’s music faculty as well as Thomas Oboe Lee of Boston College. These meaningful collaborations have been positive opportunities for Ecclesia to encourage composers to continue writing music for the church. Ecclesia is proud to have shared in five seasons in the Newport Music Festival, singing music of various composers with international champions of music. Such programs have included Mozart’s Vesperae Solemnes de Confessore, Le Deluge and Oratorio de Noel of Saint-Saens, Masses by Leonard and Schubert and part songs of Dvorak as well as the glorious All-Night Vigil and Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom of Rachmaninoff.
