iCal 7:30 PM. Women In Harmony [ME]: Common as Bread: a Choral Concert About Food. Songs literally about food, such as "Chocolate", "Chili Con Carne", and "Everybody Eats When They Come to My House", as well as pieces about gardening and sustainable practices, including "Compost" and "A Girls’ Garden". The concert is in partnership with University of Maine’s Cooperative Extension; in keeping with the theme, chorus members have been making weekly deliveries to local food pantries. Ideas of hunger, including emotional hunger, and other basic human needs are represented in such pieces as Famine Song, Arlington (by the Wailin'Jennys), and Bread & Roses. With the Boston-based women's chorus Voices Rising. A special feature of this joint concert will be "Quiet", which is the song that has gone viral since being sung at the Women's March on Washington by songwriter MILCK and friends. Tickets: $12 advance purchase, $15 at the door; $10 students and seniors. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Good Shepherd Food Bank.
