The work depicts the life of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad through a creative narrative interwoven with spirituals which contain words known to refer to hidden messages about escape and life beyond slavery. Louise DeCormier will serve as narrator. The concert will also include the premier of a new arrangement by folk musician Pete Sutherland of "The Bailiff's Daughter," a ballad from the Helen Hartness Flanders collection. There will also be selections by American composers Aaron Copland, Irving Fine, Paul Basler, Mark Hayes and Norwegian-born composer Ola Gjeilo.
