Chorus description:
The Choral Art Society of the South Shore (CAS) is an educational, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing outstanding choral music to the picturesque communities of Massachusetts’ South Shore. Our members and audience are from every community in the area, including the many cities and towns of Norfolk and Plymouth Counties. Averaging 50 members, CAS has been a stalwart in the New England choral community since 1958. For more than 65 years, CAS has performed an extensive repertoire of choral music from the Renaissance to the 21st century with professional orchestra and soloists. Known for the exceptional quality of its concerts, CAS has set the standard on the South Shore. We welcome singers of all ages twice a year ahead of our Holiday and Spring concert seasons (once in September and once in January). Our members have a wide range of musical experience — though previous training and choral singing is helpful; it is not a requirement to sing. We strive to make music learning accessible with rehearsal tracks, sectionals, and good musicianship at each rehearsal. Each season begins with two open rehearsals that allow new people to join us in song. Members are always welcome to sing in one or both seasons. Rehearsals throughout the year are held on Tuesday nights from 7-9 PM at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church in Scituate (381 Country Way). Rehearsal and performance sites are handicap accessible. Interested in learning more about joining us? Email us at choralartsociety@yahoo.com. About our Director: Danica A. Buckley has been the Artistic Director and Conductor of CAS since 2005. Danica holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Boston Conservatory, where she studied with Dr. William Cutter. Danica is a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Chorus America, and the Association for Unitarian Universalist Musicians (AUUM). She has led CAS through many great performances for 20 years! Highlights include many large choral-orchestral works such as: Requiems by Mozart, Brahms, and Fauré; Magnificats by Bach, Vivaldi, and Schubert; Haydn’s Mass in Time of War, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, and many more — all with the Choral Art Society Orchestra. Danica’s previous (and current) conducting extends beyond CAS. From 2005-2010, she was the Music Director at First Parish in Brookline. From 2006-2023 she directed the Simmons College Concert Choir. From 2013-2021, she was the Music Director for First Parish Brewster on Cape Cod. In 2014, she was appointed the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Cape Cod Chorale, based in Sandwich — a position she still holds today. In addition to leading myriad choral rehearsals and performances, she is a Visiting Assistant Professor of English Composition and Literature at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
