iCal 7:30 PM. Mystic Chorale [MA]: Our Voices Will Be Heard: Songs of Protest & Hope. Songs of peace, songs of war, songs of patriotism, songs of protest, songs of connection to the causes we live for, from Civil War hymns to more contemporary songs by Crosby, Stills & Nash, Joni Mitchell, Keb’ Mo’, Ysaye Barnwell, Pat Humphries, Nick Page and others. Led by Nick Page. Guitarist Gary Backstrom opens with Jimi Hendrix’s version of The Star Spangled Banner, and the concert closes with Linda Brown San Martin (a classmate of Hillary Clinton!) and the Chorale singing a medley of civil rights anthems. As always, our audience will be part of the community, singing along (and maybe dancing!). Admission $18; children under 5 free. Songs ranging from the spiritual "Give Me Jesus" to the lullaby "All My Trials" to an exuberant “One More Day”; as well as JJ Hairston's "Lord of All" and "I Have a Dream", based on words of Dr. Martin Luther King. Featured guests include sopranos Athene Wilson, Christina DeVaughn, and Sayida Farmer; tenor Carl Corey; saxophonist, Bobby Tynes; band leader Adonis Martin from St. Paul AME Church in Cambridge; and the Liturgical Dance Troupe from AME, led Janine Dailey. iCal 7:30 PM. Mystic Chorale [MA]: EARTH SONGS: Singing for Our Home. Mystic Chorale’s 120 singers soar with inspiring melodies, defiant joy—and urgency!—on behalf of this Earth we call our home. Jim Scott, of The Paul Winter Consort, who marched and sang with Pete Seeger on many occasions during their forty-year friendship, will lead Seeger’s great anthem, "My Rainbow Race," and sing several of his own songs, including "The Rainforest Song." The program includes four premieres, including a commissioned song by Nick Page. The audience will be invited to sing along. Tickets: $18 general admission (children under 5 free).
