iCal 7:00 PM. Cantilena [MA]: I Will Be Earth: The Poetry of Nature. A program interweaving a poetry readings with choral settings of poems about the natural world. Songs by Gwyneth Walker, Roger Bourland, Susan LaBarr, and Randall Thompson, settings of poems such as "Bird" by Francisco X. Alarcón; "This is the Garden" by e. e. cummings; "Cocoons" by Emily Dickinson; "A Girl's Garden" by Robert Frost; "In Autumn" by May Swenson; and "Dew" by Sara Teasdale. Poems selected by Arlington’s Poet Laureate, Jean Flanagan; meet her and other local poets at a post-concert reception. Tickets $25 or less; free for children 12 and under with an adult. Bob Chilcott: “Peace Mass”; Donald Patriquin (arr.): “On the Mountain” (a traditional Ukrainian folk song); music by Ola Gjeilo, Joan Szymko and others that explores the idea of peace both as it relates to conflicts between nations and as it relates finding peace within ourselves as individuals.   • Musica Sacra [MA]: In Music is Such Art: Choral Music set to texts of Shakespeare. Brush up your Shakespeare! From the time of his contemporary, Thomas Morley, to the present day, composers have turned to his expressive poetry to further explore his keen observations of the human condition. Modern composers such as Mäntyjärvi, Diemer, Komulainen, Harris, Helldén, Johanson, and Hamilton, as well as 19th century ones such as Macfarren, Pearsall and Amy Beach have all set his texts, be they poetry or songs or famous soliloquies from his plays.   • Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra: Oliver Towne: Streaming Free May 1. The PVS Orchestra’s 30th annual Mary Stuart Rogers Education Concert was performed on April 11th for almost one thousand 3rd & 4th graders in Greenfield, MA. A video of the world premiere of Oliver Towne, a radio play-style composition from Andrés Martín and poet Roger Arvid Anderson, will be available to stream free on our YouTube channel beginning May 1st.
